Empirical articles report the results of research studies based on observation or experience. These are almost always peer reviewed, and have sections such as:

  • Introduction/abstract
  • Methods or Methodology
  • Population/participants/subjects
  • Results
  • Conclusions

Many of our databases have empirical articles. Often adding keywords to your search like "research" or "study" can help you identify them.

In some databases you can choose empirical study as a document type.

In PsycINFO it is listed under Methodology.
